“I call to you all day long, have
mercy on me, O Lord.” Psalm 85
“…an attentive ear is the joy of the wise.” Sirach 3:17-29
“God, in your goodness, you have made a home for the poor.” Psalm 68
“Take my yoke upon you, says the Lord, and learn from me, for I am meek
and humble of heart.” Matthew 11:29
“…every one who exalts himself will be humbled and every one who
humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 14: 1-14
“O Lord, how great is the depth of the kindness which you have shown to
those who love you.” Psalm 30:20
Today,
Sirach in the Old Testament, St.
Paul
and
Jesus himself raise the question: What do you really value? Do you
value the “way” of God? Do
you value more the “ways” of the world?
This week we honor two firemen (and all firemen, police) who lost
their lives fighting a fire in the service of us all.
Daily we honor and pray for the safety of women and men in the
armed forces. And every day we
are challenged to honor all people, to be joined in building a better
world for all God’s people.
